Cass Chapman meets Rachel Riley

British designer Rachel Riley will be bringing her eponymous childrenswear label to Bubble again this season! We asked Kodomo.com's Cass Chapman to catch up with the Royal favourite...

Hello Rachel! You're returning to Bubble London this season. What makes the show such a great destination for you? And what sets it apart from other events?

We like to show at Bubble London for several reasons. Firstly, we are a British brand, so we are always pleased to launch our new collections at a London show. Secondly, it is the first show of the season, so it really is the launch! Other shows come afterwards, and we always finish our season with the New York show - but visitors who come to Bubble get to see the collection first.

What do you get out of attending on a personal level?

I think we are one of a few brands who have attended every show since it started. What keeps it interesting is that we never know who we will meet - whether it's long-term customers and fans of our brand, or new potential buyers. I love to sell, so it's always a pleasure for me to be at Bubble and see in person the reactions from those seeing our collection for the first time.

Do you get a lot of press? Rachel Riley is so popular amongst parents, and word-of-mouth clearly works wonders - but how important is reaching out to magazines, bloggers, journalists and websites at Bubble?

We are lucky enough to have had great international press coverage, but it is always important to stay current and in the public eye - both abroad and at home. We are very present on social media, too, and often share 'happy customer' photos. I enjoy Instagram and have a personal account which is design-led, @rachelrileyglam.

Do you have any favourite blogs or magazines?

It would be difficult for me to choose, as there are so many I like for different reasons!

How did the label come about?

I have loved to making clothes since I was a teenager, starting with making them for my teddies and dolls, then for myself, then for friends' children. It was when I had children of my own that I decided to launch my own brand, as I couldn't find the classic, quality clothes I wanted!

Do you have any upcoming news or plans that you can share with us?

We have just appointed new agents, so we are now covered widely in the UK. We also have plans to grow wholesale in the USA and abroad.

What inspires your designs?

I'm inspired by many things around me, ranging from the pink-and-blue colour palette of an evening sky, to things I see in films and on TV, and my personal collection of vintage prints. I like classic shapes and conversational prints, so I love looking at books too!

Thank you, Rachel! We'll see you at Bubble this season...
